It's showtime!!!

Today we had our final rehearsal. In a few hours the show will begin and we are all very excited! Even Mr. Wesche, the headmaster of our school, will be here to see our performance!

Shakshuka!

This morning we drove to the beach by cab. The sun shined bright again, when we walked along the seaside heading Jaffa. Jaffa is the oldest part of the city (Tel Aviv used to be a small suburb of Jaffa) and in former times it was surrounded by orange trees and gardens and had its own harbor, which still exists nowadays. Jaffa is situated on a hill, so that we could see the old town with its church and its mosque from the distance. Today, Jaffa is still Arabic and has a nice market and a lot of small ancient streets, where tourists can buy humus, souvenirs or postcards.

And of course we did not miss the Middle East most famous Shakshuka restaurant : Doktor Shakshuka. We occupied half of the tables and found ourselves in a unique place, where hundreds of pans and pots were hanging under the sealing. Waiters were rushing around the tables and brought us fresh homemade lemonade, different plates with spicy sauces, vegetables, salad, bread and of course the famous Shakshuka. It is a typical and traditional dish made of tomatoes and eggs.

How to make Shakshuka?

Take a pan, put some oil in it and heat it up. Then take some sweet tomatoes and some onions, put it into the pan and fry it until it is creamy and lightly burned to get a smoky flavor. Then put one or two eggs on it and that’s it!

We all enjoyed this trip and had a fun time in Jaffa this morning. In the afternoon we worked on our project for the last time. Tomorrow will be our presentation!

This is Art!

We met at eight o' clock at school again and went together to a place in front of the Habima for another „openair-meeting“. We talked about our work, the progress of our project and gave a feedback to the teachers.

After that we went to the Tel Aviv Museum of Arts and joined a guided tour there. We saw some interesting works of Israeli artists. There was also a pop-art exhibitions with works of Andy Warhol, wich was very interesting.

Later we had some free time before we started to work on the project again.

Today it's the birthday of two German students, Maya and Rebecca!! Congratulations and: Mazel tov! So we had again a BIIIG chocolate-cake.

Max:

“While Colin and me were walking around in Tel Aviv today we saw a group of people who asked us to try out their new motion control TV. We had to stand in front of big screens and control the different programms on the screens by our hand movements. That was fun!”

Rebecca

“Yesterday evening we had a party at my host's house to celebrate Max's birthday. At midnight we started to celebrate Maya's and my birthday. It was a really great party, I enjoyed it a lot! I also enjoyed this morning because my host family prepared a special breakfast for me - that made me very happy. At school all the others sang a birthday song for Maya and me and the teachers congratulated us as well. I found it also very special to celebrate my birthday at the sunny beach in November! That is something that won't happen again very soon. Finally our teachers bought a delicious chocolate-cake for us, which we ate all together. It was a nice ending of that day.”

Work in progress on Monday

Work in progress on Tuesday. In the morning we went to the beach first and had an “open air meeting”. While we digged our toes into the sand we talked about our first days in the host families and about our first impressions of Tel Aviv! It was beautiful! Some of us jumped into the sea later, some discussed the political situation between Germany and Israel with the teachers and some just had a short nap. At 11 am we kept on editing our documentary film and the musicians rehearsed and recorded some music for the movie. We also worked on the subtitles for the documentary. Some went on working on the Making-Off-Movie. At 15 pm we had BIG sandwiches, filled with schnitzel or sausages and French fries for lunch and Max got a BIG chocolate cake for birthday! Mazal tov!!
 

First Impression of the City

Despite of our tiredness we went to the beach yesterday evening and had a lot of fun. Today, our first day in Tel Aviv, started very early. The teachers wanted to give us a first impression of the city, so we walked along Rothschild Boulevard to one of the beaches. (Bild Rothschild) It was much hotter than we expected. After a short cooldown in the sea we met Lilach Shalom, our guide for a historical tour through Tel Aviv.

She showed us Shalom Tower first. It's a museum situated in the first skyscraper of Tel Aviv, and Lilach told us about the city's origin.

Some families from Jaffa decided to build a new city, which was supposed to be a garden city, but what now is a city with many skyscrapers. We continued our way to the Independence Hall, the former residence of the major of Tel Aviv. In this building the declaration of independence was signed and the State of Israel was founded.

Our guided tour was finished and we had some free time to relax. The first day was interesting but also a bit exhausting, cause we changed from 5°C and rain to more than 25° and sun. That was our day – a perfect start into a perfect week!! In the afternoon we went on editing the documentary and had an intensive rehearsal for the music. ...And its Max's Birthday tomorrow.

Just arrived!

Finally we are here! After a really loooooong trip our hosts gave us a warmhearted welcome at school. But now we can hardly keep our eyes open, so tomorrow we will tell you more! Laila tov! Gute Nacht!
